Some Podcast Updates

Hey Everyone, Rob here. I want to let y’all know some things about our podcast.

Brett and I are newbies to podcasting, in case you hadn’t noticed (you guys are smart…I bet you already had). We have had a lot of ups and downs with the experience so far:

  • The sound quality of our first five or so full episodes left a lot to be desired. For the first episode, I was sick and hoarse. For the next three or four episodes, we had an audio imbalance issue because SOMEONE (hint: rhymes with Brett) wasn’t reading his VU meter when we were doing sound checks. We believe we may have finally hit upon a workable combination. It doesn’t seem like Brett is whispering and I am yelling so much anymore.
  • I needed to learn to not pound on the table when I am speaking. I am a very rhythm-oriented person and when I got on a roll, I would provide myself a beat to talk with. I mean, really? What else am I supposed to do with my hands when I am speaking? Make shadow puppets?
  • Brett needed to learn to keep facing the microphone when he is speaking and keep a consistent distance from it. He’s getting better all the time (mentally insert Beatles song here).
  • The extraneous bumps and knocks in the audio happened because the place where we were originally recording the episodes has wobbly tables. Any small wobble or accidental bump was being picked up in the audio. Our new location has a very solid table, so those should be minimal. Then again, get enough liquor into us and have us discuss the right topic, we may not be able to control our impulses for slamming things, bumping things, or table flipping.
  • When we record our episodes, we record them after hours in places where we might not be the most welcome. That’s why we had to leave our first location. The new location, however, should hopefully remain our recording location…at least until one of us makes a lot of dough and we can afford our own custom-built studio (cough, cough, Jason Stapleton, cough, cough).
  • I edit all of the episodes, except the first one. I’ve never really done audio editing before, so I am learning as I go. I have gotten my editing time down to around eight hours per episode. This podcast has become like a 4th job for me. That’s OK. I don’t sleep much by normal human standards. I believe I am getting better at editing, especially after having listened to the first few episodes. What do you guys think? As of now, I believe my best effort yet is Episode 007. If I can maintain that standard, I may have hit on a winning formula here.
  • Brett maintains this website as well as our social media accounts. We do have a Twitter feed (https://twitter.com/halfhourliberty) and are planning to expand into YouTube and maybe a few other places. Blame him if they are not up-to-date.

In other words, please don’t give up on us. We’re n00bs who are trying to make a go of podcasting. We believe that our message is too important to not be heard and we appreciate all of you for supporting us by listening. We plan to keep putting this podcast out as long as possible.
